Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: BURNS
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that workers used a halved 55 gallon drum to put molten salt solution for cooling. SALT POT AREA: Workers were exposed to injury while using an unsecured horizontally halved 55 gallon drum to place molten salt solution into for cooling. On or about 3/24/00 a worker received second degree burns to his legs and feet when the barrel moved and the ladle containing some molten salt, fell out of the drum and struck the worker. Among others, one method of abatement would be to remove the drum from service and utilize the new trays designed and made to replace the drum. NOTE: This item was observed to be abated during the inspection.
