Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a collapsing roof of the center structure of a three structure modular class room unit. Worksite: St. Bridget's Church, 175 Main Street, Cheshire Ct: On or about 27 August 1997, during the assembly of a three section modular classroom building, the roof structure of the center modular unit collapsed onto a construction worker. The temporary bracing used to stabilize the structure was removed before the modular section could be anchored to the adjacent modular section. A feasible method of abatement existed if the employer had maintained the temporary braces in place until such time as the modular unit was supported to the adjacent modular section.
