Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a crushing hazard from inadvertent scaffold movement: (a)Thomson Corporation Site - Employee was exposed to inadvertent raising of the scaffold platform due to the neutral latching mechanism being broken and/or missing from the control levers. These control levers were missing the labels as required. These condition existed on the Marklift self propelled scissor lift in use on October 29, 1994 at the time of an accident. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO REPLACE THE MISSING OR BROKEN PARTS AND PROPERLY LABEL THE CONTROL LEVERS.
