Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to an unintended activation of a foot pedal not protected by a guard: (a) Production Area - Employee operating a foot pedal to the Steelweld mechanical press brake was not provided with a guard to protect employees from unintended activation by falling or moving objects or by someone accidently stepping on it, on or about December 9, 1992. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to install a guard over the foot pedal. OR IN THE ALTERNATIVE 29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Machine guarding was not provided to protect operators and other employees from hazards created by an unintended activation of a foot pedal not protected by a guard: (a) Production Area - Employee operating a foot pedal to the Steelweld mechanical press brake was not provided with a guard to protect employees from unintended activation by falling or moving objects or by someone accidently stepping on it, on or about December 9, 1992.
