Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing injuries and death from falling crane boom parts and materials: (a) Grant Steel Corporation; An American 797 crawler lattice boom crane, Serial #GS19048, was being operated which was missing one boom stop. Among other methods one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to install boom stops of the shock absorbing type in accordance with the American National Standard Institute, ANSI B30.5, Page 12, Para 5-1.9.1, Booms.
