29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc. a. On or about July 12, 2017, in the fence line area, the fence line welding machine, model FSD074, did not have the 'part shuttle' guarded from accidental contact, exposing employees to a caught-in hazard. b. On or about June 26, 2017, in the maintenance shop, an Ellis Power Feed Drill Press, model 9400, did not have a guard to prevent contact with the rotating chuck, exposing employees to a caught-in hazard. c. On or about June 26, 2017, in the maintenance shop, an Ellis Power Feed Drill Press, model 9400, did not have a guard to prevent contact with the cutting bit, exposing employees to an amputation hazard.
