Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: HEAT
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that: (a)The water heater in the East men's washroom had a shutoff valve installed between the water tank and the temperature and pressure relief valve. The water heater manufacturers' instructions, which requires a temperature and pressure relief valve installed with no other valves between it and the water tank, shall be followed. The manufacturers' instructions also requires that the temperature and pressure relief valve be installed near the top of the water heater tank so that its temperature sensing element is immersed in the water at the top of the tank. One feasible and useful method of correction would be to remove all other valves that are now between the temperature and pressure relief valve and install the temperature and pressure relief valve into the water heater. Certification, with date and method of abatement required. Certification of abatement is required by 29 CFR Part 1903 and is to be submitted within ten (10) calendar days after the abatement date.ment
