Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of falling, in that an employee climbed up and stood on trailers stacked 4 high on top of a flatbed truck to signal the crane operator, unhook the load and secure the stacked trailers. When finished the employee climbed down the side of the trailers exposed to a fall: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to provide and require the use of an articulating boom with a belt and lanyard. IN THE ALTERNATIVE 29 CFR 1910.28(a)(1): Ladders or scaffolds were not furnished for employees engaged in work that could not be done safely from the ground or from solid construction: Shipping and Receiving area - An employee climbed up and stood on trailers stacked 4 high on top of a flatbed truck to signal the crane operator, unhook the load and secure the stacked trailers. When finished the employee climbed down the side of the trailer exposed to a fall.ed
