Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fall hazards: a. Maintenance Department - On or about April 6, 1999, employees required to perform maintenance work were being lifted fifteen (15) to twenty (20) feet off the ground in a personnel platform that did not have appropriate restraining characteristics. A feasible means of abatement to eliminate the hazard is to ensure that all platforms used to lift employees have restraining means such as rails, chains, or cables positioned to a height not less than 36 inches measured from the upper surface to the floor of the platform, or ensure a safety harness and lanyard are worn by the person(s) on the platform as required by ANSI B-56.1-1993, Safety Standard for Powered Industrial Trucks. ***THIS ITEM REQUIRES DOCUMENTATION OF ABATEMENT***
