Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a)In the Die Room, employees were observed walking and were exposed to the hazard of falls and resulting broken bone injuries as they were allowed to walk on conveyor sections that do not have tread plates on them, as referenced by ANSI B 20.1-1976, paragraph 6.11.1.2. This condition exists in two different sections of the conveyor, between the Sheridan and Bruno die cutting machines, each section measures approximately 6 ft. by 5 ft., on or about 8/17/94. Feasible and acceptable methods among others to correct the hazard are to: Install suitable means such as tread plates on the roller type balls as a walking surface for designated workers in the performance of their duties. Instruct employees and enforce use of walkways with treads.
