Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of descending automotive lifts: (a) Shop Area; a locking device was not installed on the Weaver automotive lift to prevent it from lowering to the ground due to loss of power. One feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to install an automatic mechanical device that will hold the lift in a fully extended position. This device shall have a strength factor of not less than 3, based on the rated load capacity.
