Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CAUGHT
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to having their hair caught in moving machinery: (a) Location - Doubler Area: On or about 9/10/97, an employee was scalped when her hair was caught on a rotating shaft on the RPR Doubler. Among other methods, feasible abatement methods include: 1. Develop and implement a specific policy on the acceptable methods by which employees must restrain their hair to prevent being caught in moving machinery. 2. Train employees and managers in the company's specific hair restraint requirements. 3. Implement a program for monitoring and enforcement of employee compliance with the set requirements.
