Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: Bruises, fractures, sprains, lacerations or other injuries associated with falls as the result of employees stepping onto exposed conveyor rollers, at floor level when the belt rides to one side of the conveyor. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to replace the belt with a belt that will completely cover the rollers and to develop a preventative maintenance program that will ensure and maintain proper tracking such as that outlined in ANSI ASME B20.1 1990 "safety standards for conveyors and related equipment".
