Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: UNAPEQUIP
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: Falcon Construction Services, Inc. did not follow the HIB-91 Summary Sheet which includes commentary and recommendations for handling, installing and bracing metal plate connected wood trusses provided by the Truss Plate Institute. Falcon Construction did not follow the truss manufacturers recommendations for Ultra-Span bracing. Falcon Construction did not thoroughly inspect the trusses and temporary bracing after a large storm passed over this job site the night before this collapse occurred. One feasible abatement method would be to follow the HIB-91 Summary Sheet which includes recommendations for bracing trusses and to inspect the temporary bracing before employees are allowed to work on the trusses. Trusses should also be thoroughly inspected after high wind storms have passed over the project. Additional abatement information is required for this item.
