Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CHEMICAL
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to chemical hazards. In the waste treatment area, there was an acid storage tank that had a Jaco nylon 1/2"NPTX1/4" hose fitting. Employees were thereby exposed to the hazards associated with the release of sulfuric, nitric, and phosphoric acids due to the chemical incompatibility of the fitting. One feasible method among others to abate this hazard is to ensure that the fittings used for the storage tanks are compatible to the contents of the tanks.
