29 CFR 1926.651(c)(2): A stairway, ladder, ramp or other safe means of egress is not located in trench excavations that are 4 feet (1.22 m) or more in depth so as to require no more than 25 feet (7.62 m) of lateral travel for employees. (a) The employer does not ensure a safe means of egress is located in excavations. This violation was most recently observed on March 22, 2017, where two employees of Titan Technologies, Inc. were working in an excavation of Type C soil measuring approximately 10' wide, 13' long and 7.2' deep exposing the workers to falls into the excavation or limiting their means of egress from the excavation. NOTE: Abatement certification AND supporting documentation are required for this item.
