29 CFR 1910.37(b)(5): Each doorway or passage along an exit access that could be mistaken for an exit was not marked "Not an Exit" or similar designation, or be identified by a sign indicating its actual use (e.g. closet): a) Door to the pit by the garage The door leading to "the pit"used by patients as a smoking area was not marked "Not an Exit". In the case of fire or other emergencies, workers may confuse this door as an emergency exit delaying their escape and resulting in exposure to fire and/or smoke inhalation hazards. b) Door from the pit to below grade area The door leading from the pit to an area below grade was not marked "Not an Exit".
