Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being crushed/struck by falling trusses: a) On or about 06/22/09, new pole barn at 140 Railroad Street, trusses were not properly braced which caused them to collapse. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO: 1) UTILIZE THE RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE TRUSS PLATE INSTITUTE WHICH WERE CONTAINED IN SECTION B2 OF THE 2008 EDITION OF BUILDING COMPONENT SAFETY INFORMATION BCSI-GUIDE TI GOOD PRACTICE FOR HANDLING, INSTALLING, RESTRAINING, AND BRACING OF METAL PLATE CONNECTED WOOD TRUSSES WHICH IS DELIVERED TO THE SITE WITH A PACKET WITH EACH LOAD OF TRUSSES. 2) FOLLOW THE SHOP DRAWINGS PROVIDED BY THE ENGINEERING FIRM HIRED BY THE BUILDING OWNER. 3) FOLLOW RECOMMENDATIONS SET FORTH BY THE DESIGNING ENGINEERING FIRM. NO ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION REQUIREDATION
