Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(A)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by another vehicle and being ejected or thrown from a moving vehicle: (a) The employer had in use motor vehicle equipment used by the maintenance crews such as crew truck VB005 which had the following deficiencies; no operable horn, brake lights, right and left indicator lights, and no seat belts: crew truck VV008 which had the following deficiencies; no operable horn, brake lights, right rear indicator light, and no right windshield wiper: tow truck VP017 which had the following deficiencies; right front indicator light not operable. Vehicular accidents can occur because drivers may not be able to safely operate the vehicles. Among other methods, one feasible method of correction would be to install seat belts and to repair the defective safety equipment. PLEASE NOTE: CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION OF ABATEMENT IS REQUIRED FOR THIS VIOLATION.
