Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by falling portions of the hoisted load of the recently installed, unmarked, hoist located in the detail area of the weld shop: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to have the supporting structure (I-Beam) to which each hoist is installed, load rated to ensure it is at least equal to that of the hoist in accordance with Paragraph 16-1.1.3.1 of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) B30.16-1973, Overhead Hoists.
