Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing injuries while operating the remove contorl crane and rigging simultaneously: a. Reduction Plant, Casting Department, DC Number 6 at Number 511 Crane Employee was operating the remote control crane while helping to apply chockers to two bottom blocks to be hoisted. Inadvertent activation of remote control exposes employees to crushing injuries and lacerations, on or about July 21, 1993. Among others, one feasible and accepted abatement method to correct this hazard is for employees operating the remote control to refrain from operating the remote while simultaneously rigging for lifts.
