29 CFR 1910.5(a)(1): Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that, employees were placed into positions as a multicraftsmen without being provided training. The equipment tenders positions were a combination of a saturator operator position and a pipefitter repairman position; and an oil stillmen operator and a pipefitter repairman. The employees that were placed in these positions were pipefitter repairmen and were not provided the knowledge and skills to perform as operators. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS to provide training to the equipment tenders that includes, but is not limited to, the operating procedures for the departments in which they were assigned.
