Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing injuries should charge buckets fail during use: (a)Casting Department/M-2 Bay. Charge buckets carrying scrap metal to furnaces DC-1 through DC-9, are not inspected on a bi-monthly basis and reports completed in detail, per the companys own internal program. Nondestructive testing is not conducted on a yearly basis per the companys own internal program. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS to develop and follow a program to ensure that inspections are completed on a regular basis and in detail, with corrective actions promptly taken as needed and non destructive testing conducted on a regular basis.
