Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing hazard because of defective equipment: (a)PennDOT Building on Front and Sycamore Streets, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania 17101 Two (2) employees working in a hydraulic boom supported elevated work platform, approximately thirty (35) feet high, which had a faulty safety footswitch, as occurred on April 18, 1996. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to ensure that all equipment is properly inspected prior to use on the site and ensure any defect is promptly reported and corrected prior to use.r
