Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed burns from stack fire: (a)Tempering Department - Employee(s) were exposed to the exhaust stack fire hazards from the oil tempering process. No automatic fire protection system was provided in the exhaust stack in accordance with NFPA 86, 1995, sections 11-1.1 and 11-1.2. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO PROVIDE AN AUTOMATIC FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM.
