Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing injuries: An employee working on the Worthington Ridge Residential Construction Project was injured when operating the Vermeer V-4150A Tractor. The employee was in the process of grading when control of the equipment was lost, the equipment rolled down the slope throwing the employee out of the seat. The employee was crushed when the equipment rolled onto its side and on top of the employee. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to require employees to use the manufacturer's supplied seat belt while operating this machine.
