Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to falling loads and/or falling hoist parts: a) Large Capacity Cell Department - The hoist in the Large Capacity Cell Department was not kept in good repair in that: 1. The supporting structure did not have a load rating test, 2. The hoist did not have a load rating test conducted on it, 3. Frequent and periodic inspections were not conducted with written, signed, and dated reports/records on the hoist and wire rope, and 4. A preventative maintenance program was not developed and implemented. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO DEVELOP A PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE PROGRAM IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE HOIST MANUFACTURER'S SPECIFICATIONS AND ALSO ANSI B30.11 AND ANSE B30.16. NOTE: ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION REQUIRED.TION
