Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the recognized hazards associated with falling objects, such as 1400 pounds bacon trees. Among other methods, two feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard are as follows: 1) The implementation of an effective and documented complaint tracking system. 2) The implementation of an enforced preventative maintenance program specifically applying to the rail systems and including, but not limited to, the rail stops and the switches. Abatement certification is required for this violation. The abatement certification sheet is enclosed with the citations.
