Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.242(a): Hand and portable powered tools or equipment were not kept in safe condition: The employer is failing to protect employees from the hazards associated with lacerations and potential amputations. During routine slaughter operations, employees, including, but not limited to, scribe saw operators are exposed to these potential hazards from the scribe saws. The machine was equipped with an activation trigger and a secondary activation bar. Both of these switches have to be depressed to activate the saw. During operation a worker was separating carcasses which had jammed on the line. The saw activated inadvertently with the employees hands in the point of operation. One instance, which occurred on or about May 6, 2016 involved a scribe saw in the facility located at 1500 Plum Creek Parkway, Lexington, NE
