Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)1 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing hazards: Establishment - The employer did not ensure that the Renfroe Plate Clamps (plate dawgs) used to move steel plates were inspected as detailed in the inspection procedures outlined in the manufacturer's manual. Employees were exposed crushing hazards. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS: Develop and implement an inspection program for all the below-the hook lifting devices in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers B30.20-1993. 29 CFR 1903.19(d)(1) requires certification and documentation of the above violation is completed.
