Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)1 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to below the hook attachment hazards: Floor Framing Assembly Area & Hucking Area - the below-the-hook attachments developed and built in house was not load rated or load tested. The attachment was not marked with a load rating. Employees are exposed to struck by hazards. Feasible and acceptable abatement methods include, but are not limited to: 1. Provide the rated load on any custom made lifting device. 2. Design the lifting device to withstand the forces imposed by its rated load with minimum design factor of three. 3. Provide initial, frequent and periodic inspections of the lifting devices. 4. Ensure that the initial proof testing is 125of the rated load was conducted. Reference: ANSI B30.20 "Below the Hook Lifting Devices" 29 CFR 1903.19(c)(2) abatement of the above violation was verified at the time of inspection, no certification is required.
