Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a fall hazard of approximately 13 feet: (a) In the fan room inside the bread freezer, employee(s) working on an unstable particleboard floor were exposed to a fall hazard of approximately 13 feet due to the structural integrity of the floor not being able to support employee(s) safety. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to provide a floor that will not exceed the allowable or ultimate stresses when a load factor is applied as recommended by ANSI A58.1-1972 Appendix Table A3 for minimum uniformly distributed live loads.
