Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: GUARDING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees working alone were exposed to the hazard of unattended injuries and/or illness due to their inability to summon emergency medical aid while performing their guard rounds: a- Goodyear Warehouse, 1665 Jersey Ave., North Brunswick, New Jersey: On or about June 11, 1995, immediate means to summon medical aid/assistance was not available to employees performing guard duties. One feasible and acceptable abatement method, among others, to correct this hazard is to provide the security guards, who are working alone, with an emergency device which could be easily activated to summon assistance should a medical emergency arise.
