Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to hazard of amputation and severe lacerations from saws automatically restarting upon restoration of power after a power interruption. (a) Location - Meat cutting area: On or before 11/03/99, the meat cutting machine, Butcher Boy Band Saw, serial no. 82446 was not equipped with a magnetic motor start, exposing employees to the hazards created by a saw automatically starting upon restoration of power after a power interruption. Among other methods, feasible abatement method include: 1. Installation of a magnetic motor start safety switch. 2. Purchase of a saw equipped with a magnetic motor start safety switch.
