Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to amputation: Production area at Denison Hydroilic Multipress Company #P85, the machine operator holds the actuating lever and/or controls with their knee(s) while reaching for the stop button during set up operations. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to instruct and adequately train the operators in the safe method of work before allowing operation of any hydraulic power press covered by ANSI B11.2 - 1982 and ensure by adequate supervision that correct operating procedures are being followed.
