Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that are likely to cause death or serious harm to employees. Employees were exposed to the hazard of falls while riding in an elevated scissor lift which was being operated near drop-offs or holes. Along the south wall of the job site at 9 North 325 Route 25, Elgin, IL, an employee installing pipe brackets for a sprinkler system was moving from west to east in an elevated scissor lift did not insure that the platform was not operated near drop-offs or holes as specified in ANSI A92.6-1979 Section 14.2.3(2) as well as the platform operator's manual. The work platform was elevated approximately 32 feet above the floor when it was driven into an 8 inch deep depression. One feasible method of abatement would be to barricade any holes or drop-offs prior to operating the platform. DOCUMENTATION AND CERTIFICATION REQUIRED FOR THIS ITEM
