Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being struck by molten metal while transferring molten zinc from the zinc pot to the die cast machines. In the die cast department between die cast machines #15 and #16, employees were transferring 30 pound ladles of molten zinc from the zinc pot to the die cast machine. During the transfer process the employee carried the ladle within approximately one foot of the quench trough which contained water. A feasible method of abatement would be to relocate the quench trough away from the zinc pot or to shield the quench tank. NO DOCUMENTATION OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED FOR THIS ITEM
