Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: BURNS
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) On or about 04/02/98 for an employee using a propane torch and gasoline to remove a piece of wood jammed in a scrap metal baler and exposed to the potential for serious burn injuries created by a fire hazard. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to prohibit the use of flammable liquids such as oil, gasoline, diesel fuel, etc. while using propane torches or other flame-producing devices during equipment maintenance and/or other routine work.
