Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: (a) Employees were exposed to potential fall hazards while operating the manually operated manlift due to the lack of an enclosure on the manlift car in the east elevator. One feasible and acceptable method, among other methods, to correct this hazard would be to install a complete car enclosure on the manlift car. (b) Employees were exposed to a crushing hazard while working near the manually operated manlift due to the lack of guardrails around the base of the manlift in the east elevator. One feasible and acceptable method, among other methods, to correct this hazard would be to install guardrails around the base of the manlift.ls
