Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: (a) At the east building, employees were exposed to a potential fall hazard while operating the manually operated manlift due to the lack of a complete car enclosure. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to install a complete car enclosure on the manlift. (b) At the west unit, employees were exposed to potential fall hazards while working on top of hopper cars during loading operations. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to install some type of fall protection on top of the cars (safety belts and lanyards, guardrails, or an equivalent means of protection).
