Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: (a) Employees were exposed to a potential fall hazard while operating the manlift in the main elevator and the feed mill due to the lack of car enclosures on the manlifts. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to install a complete car enclosure on the manlift cars. (b) Employees were exposed to a potential crushing hazard while working on the main floor in the old pv elevator and while on the elevated manlift platform in the main elevator, due to the lack of guardrails around the base of the manlift. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to install guardrails around the base of each manlift.ls
