Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: UNAPEQUIP
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: (a) At each of the three landings, the freight elevator hoistway gates did not extend to a height of at least six feet and had openings greater than two inches. (b) The freight elevator was not equipped with car doors or gates. Feasible methods of abatement, among others, would be: 1. To extend the gates at the freight elevator hoistways to a height of at least six feet and close the openings in the gate to less than two inches, as required by ANSI A17.1-1965, Rule 110.1. 2. To install a car door or gate, with electric contacts which will prevent operation of the car until the door or gate is closed, at each of the car entrances, as required by ANSI A17.1-1965, Rule 204.4.1965,
