Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: BURNS
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to severe burn injuries from the potential dust explosion hazard that could have resulted from, or been exacerbated by the selection and location of the dust collector in a class II division I and II area. (a)Production Area - The air from the outside cyclone dust collector was recycled back into the building through eight (8) dust collection bags which were located adjacent to a fuel oil tank. An accidental discharge of fine wood dust into the facility may result in a potential dust explosion, on or about March 7, 2002. "AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO LOCATE THE DUST COLLECTION SYSTEM OUTSIDE OF THE BUILDING, AND NOT TO RECYCLE THE EXHAUST AIR FROM THE DUST COLLECTOR BACK INTO THE BUILDING." VERIFICATION REQUIRED
