Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5 (a) (1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of falling: (a) At the Job-Site/Southwest Corner - Two employees working 14 ft high on a Self Propelled Elevating Platform ¿JLG Sizzor Lift!, Model # CM2033/Serial # 0200023411, were exposed to fall hazards after moving into an unguarded floor hole; 21 1/2 inches long x 21 1/4 inches wide x 16 inches deep; On or about 1/23/97. ABATEMENT NOTES: Among other methods, one feasible method to reduce this hazard is to: 1.(a) Perform workplace inspections as outlined in ANSI standard A92.6-1990 section 8.7 "Workplace Inspection" which states: "Before the aerial platform is used and during use, the operator shall check the area in which the aerial platform is to be used for possible hazards such as, but not limited to: (1)Drop-offs or holes (2)Bumps and floor obstructions (3)Debris (4)Overhead obstructions and high voltage conductors (5)Hazardous locations (6)Inadequate surface and support to withstand all load forces imposed by the aerial platform in all operating configurations (7)Wind and weather conditions (8)Other possible unsafe conditions.
