Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to an unguarded pedal: a) Stitching Machine, Finishing Area - the foot operating pedal of the five head Bostitch #805 stitching machine was not protected to prevent unintended operation from falling or moving objects, or from someone inadvertently stepping onto the pedal, 6/12/85. b) Cutting Machine, Finishing Area - the clamp foot operating pedal of the Polar Cutter machine was not protected to prevent unintended operation of the clamp from falling or removing objects or from someone inadvertently stepping onto the pedal, 6/12/85. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to provide a fixed protective cover over the operating pedal.
