Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were not provided with an early warning smoke detection system exposing them to harmful concentration of smoke from a possible fire while occupants sleep in the dormitory: a)Joint Forces Training Base: The employer failed to maintain the smoke detection system where students, military personal and civilians sleep in the hotel and dormitory type buildings. Occupants are exposed to life threatening condition in case of a fire or other emergency were to occur in the following buildings: 1. Building #15 - Dormitory 2. Building #19 - Dormitory 3. Building #55 - Dormitory 4. Building #56 - Dormitory ABATEMENT NOTE: AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THESE HAZARDS IS TO PROVIDE AN APPROVED SINGLE-STATION SMOKE ALARM IN EVERY GUEST ROOM, LIVING AREA AND SLEEPING ROOM BY FOLLOWING THE NATIONAL FIRE PROTECTION ASSOCIATION - 101, CHAPTER 29, SECTION 3.4.5.
