Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CAUGHT
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being caught between truck body and metal scrap-bin because the crane operator and the signalman were untrained in the use of the standard hand signals for crawler cranes, locomotive and truck cranes. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to train employees according to U.S. AS 830.5- 1968 Section 5-3.3.2 "Standard signals to crawler, locomotive and truck cranes" and assure the understanding of same.
