Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CHEMICAL
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to acute chemical exposures from trichlorosilane flowing or spraying out of a separated, burst or split transfer hose: a.On or about June 17, 1994, the employer had not properly ensured that the transfer hoses were pressure tested with adequate pressures and procedures to ensure that the structural integrity of the transfer hoses were adequate to withstand the pressures and stresses maintained throughout the transfer of chemicals. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to hydrostatically test the hoses at one and a half times the rated working pressure. This is in accordance with Rubber Manufacturers Association Chemical Hose Handbook IP-11-7.
