29 CFR 1915.111(a): All gear and equipment provided by the employer for rigging and materials handling shall be inspected before each shift and when necessary, at intervals during its use to ensure that it is safe. Defective gear shall be removed and repaired or replaced before further use. And/or in the alternative: 29 CFR 1910.184(i)(9): Synthetic web sling was not immediately removed from service for having snags, cuts and tears. (a) On or about October 23, 2015, in the yard area, the employer failed to inspect the sling being utilized by the crane to ensure that it was not defective. Employees were exposed to struck-by hazards.
