Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: BLOODBORNE
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees including but not limited to, nurses, nurses aides, housekeepers, and laundry workers, were exposed to the hazard of being infected with hepatitis Type B virus (HBV) through possible direct contact with blood or body fluids: ESTABLISHMENT: THE EMPLOYER DID NOT OFFER HEPATITIS TYPE B VACCINATION, FREE OF CHARGE, TO EMPLOYEES WHO ARE AT RISK OF BEING INFECTED WITH HBV THROUGH DIRECT CONTACT AND/OR POTENTIAL DIRECT CONTACT WITH BLOOD AND BODY FLUIDS. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD WOULD BE TO OFFER HBV VACCINATIONS, FREE OF CHARGE TO EMPLOYEES : 1. AT A REASONABLE TIME AND PLACE 2. PERFORMED BY OR UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF A LICENSED PHYSICIAN OR ANOTHER LICENSED HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONAL ACCORDING TO RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE U.S. PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICE.
